The Final Products

Here's what the final products looked like. I will have to admit that the P-Weight is pretty slick. You don't have to worry about dropping the thing when assembling your gear and you can use it in addition to a V-Weight if you need to sink a neoprene wetsuit.

As you can see there is some trimming that needs to be done on the P-Weight. Easily accomplished with some tin snips. I also got the weight a bit too long and could not spin my wing nuts. The lead is easily trimmed using a bandsaw with a course wood blade. You can also trim the lead with a narrow-chord rough cut saw. Hacksaw and other metal cutting blades get clogged up with lead and don't work too hot.

So, with these 2 weights I can say "goodbye" to the tyranny of the weight belt! The P-Weight weighed about 7lbs and the V-Weight weighed in at 6lbs.

Make sure you double-nut the P-weight or use a nylock nut. The main disadvantage of the P-Weight is that it has an outside chance of falling off if you screw up the molded-in bolt installation. The nut sticks out so if you use a V-Weight too, you will have to make a countersink hole for the nut-head to fit into.
